What you'll find here:
Lots of cityscapes, lots of urban decay. Alleys. Sci-fi things. Nattering about worldbuilding. Cobblestones. Thieves. Oliver Twist. Quotes about trust and life and death and characters. Pictures of pretty people who at least vaguely match the images in my head of my protagonists. If any of that sounds interesting, feel free to follow even if you have no idea about or interest in the in-progress novel that ties it together.
What this blog is actually about:
So there's this novel I'm kind of working on. It's very close to my heart because it's been living in my head since early 2003, and basically it started as a sci-fi retelling of Oliver Twist, with the Dodger character as the protagonist. That's still the core of the story, I suppose, but it's...grown since then. A lot.
It takes place in Thassen, a very old city that's the center of government and commerce on a planet frequently isolated by wacky shenanigans by the star around which it revolves. Thassen also has a pretty significant criminal element, mostly thieves who organized into cooperative rings some centuries ago when it became real obvious they couldn't fight both the government and each other. Daemin Gelebri (the Dodger), also called the Specter for his ability to disappear when police are after him, has been a thief since he was a child and is somewhat well-known throughout the city for being very, very good...and he's got a bad secret in his past that still haunts him. Enter Trin (Oliver), a comparatively innocent orphan who starts to reawaken Daemin's conscience, humanity, and deep desire for redemption. Too bad Cydan (Sikes) has an equally deep desire to drag some more nasty secrets out of the past and then kill Trin, oh also there is that.
Uh, and then this story kind of spawned a sequel, which is mostly relevant because Daemin ends up working with and then falling in love with Reina, Trin's half-sister (it's kind of complicated).
This blog mostly starts with photos of cute dark-haired guys who look something like the way I picture Daemin, and also pictures of cute couples who bear at least a passing resemblance to how I picture him and Reina. Also songs and song lyrics, because my Thieves' Honor playlist currently contains...92 songs. Heh. Then I go nuts posting cityscapes and urban decay, because that's pretty relevant too.
